shield (shêld) nounMinifig shields come in two types, Triangular and Ovoid (or teardrop) shapes. The original triangular shield came blank without any printing and a sticker sheet was included in the set box to apply the designs to the shields yourself. As a kid I remember carefully applying the stickers to the shields trying to get them on straight. Also the stickers tended to wear off after much handling or if they got wet. Probably for these and other reasons, now all of the shields designs come preprinted, no more stickers.

While most castle sets include a shield of some kind, sets from other themes (Wild West and Star Wars for example) include shields as well. Below are the types of shield designs available and in which sets they can be found.

Here is the popular Balck Falcons pattern originally from the LEGOLAND Castle theme though it continued to show up in several sub-themes.
